Introduction/Church Background

1. Historical Background

WHOLICARE Community Missionary Church was started in Pasadena on Sunday, May 19, 1991 by Dr. Nlongi Mfwilwakanda and members from different churches who were convinced about his holistic approach to the teaching of the Word of God.

The first meeting took place at Dr. Nlongi Mfwilwakanda’s residence at 406 North Catalina Avenue.

WHOLICARE church   got a legal recognition by the State on September 14, 1993. The church then relocated to Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. WHOLICARE church is a non-denominational church with a strong missionary mandate. Its objectives consist of converting people to God through faith in Jesus Christ.

In 2002, WHOLICARE relocated to the First Congregational Church in Pasadena, close to Fuller Theological Seminary.

Ministers from many countries came to minister at WHOLICARE.

Likewise, many students of Fuller Seminary visited WHOLICARE to benefit from our strong missionary mandate.

This interaction brought an international dynamics to the church.

Today WHOLICARE is fully engaged in missionary work in Pasadena and surrounding areas.

In 2008, WHOLICARE was introduced to the Mennonite Community.

This encounter resulted in a strong cooperation with the Mennonite Community.

Furthermore, with the arrival of Pastor Jules Massamba and new members from the Congo,

3. Problem Statement/Needs Statement

WHOLICARE has been ministering to the Christian community of Pasadena for 20 years.

As spiritual needs grew, the church developed both onsite and outreach ministries.

This includes ministry to the sick; ministry to the marginalized; participation in ministers’ training, conferences, seminars; family, children, and youth ministries; music ministry, etc.

Additionally, the church has been marked with a tremendous growth in membership. However, this growth comes with new challenges and needs.

The challenges include the limited availability of the rental place for worship and other pastoral activities.

Another challenge is related to the lack of reliable transportation to support the growing outreach ministries.

This has limited the church’s participation in pastoral and educational activities outside of Pasadena.
